We would like to thank Ray Lerwell for taking on the Junior Section which is starting to pick-up once again. Ray is doing a great job, contacting parents every week informing them of lessons on a Friday evening.

The junior section is very important to Newport Sands Links Golf Club. They are the future members who will carry the club forward, it is an important contribution we make to the youth of the Newport area giving them a positive activity to enjoy; golf is a sport that requires discipline, focus and concentration as well as sporting skills. All positive things for our youngsters to learn.

If you know any juniors who fancy giving golf a try then please contact Ray, Alun or Julian.  Apart from numbers increasing three of our juniors have excelled in 2015.  Ffion Evans has represented Wales Girls up in Scotland finishing in 50th position out of 100 girls; a fabulous effort given this was the under 18’s with Ffion only being 14 at the time of the event. And there were players from all over Europe competing.

Carys Worby is also showing exceptional ability reaching the semi finals of the County Ladies Championships. An amazing achievement as Carys is just 13 playing against the best ladies in the County and coming in the top four – an fantastic achievement.

Both Ffion and Carys are in the Welsh squads, both qualified for the Principality Welsh Open and both played for our Ladies in their first county League match.

In the boys section Joss Lerwell is also going from strength to strength – he like the girls is also in the Welsh squad and has recently qualified for the European Championships in Scotland.  What a fantastic advertisement they are for our club. We are extremely proud of their achievements and wish them all the very best of luck for 2015 representing themselves and our club further afield.
